Prayer for Self-Control
Lord, it is so easy to blend in and to be like everyone else. I know I am to be under self-control, but to do that, I must first be under your control. Lord, help me to realize that You have not given me a spirit of timidity but a spirit of power and love and self-control. Help me to turn over control of my life to you. Help me to be watchful, to stand firm in keeping that control in your hands, and to do all that I do in love, as you give me to do.
I will try to do your will. I find the circumstances of my life-hard, at times, O God, I do not understand why things happen the way they do. But then, I remember your divine Son prayed- “Not my will, but yours be done.”
My Lord God, I have no idea what to do next. I do not see the road ahead of me. I cannot know for certain where it will end, Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think I am following your will does not mean that I am actually doing so. But I believe that the desire to love you and please you does in fact please you. And I hope that I will never do anything aparty from that desire. And I know that if I do this, You will lead me by the right road though Imay know nothing about it. Therefore will I trust you always though I may seem to be lostand in the shadow of death. I will not fear, for you are ever with me, and you will never leave me to face life without your guidance. Amen.
